Škoda shares engine technology with the Volkswagen Group. The 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 TSI engines can show premature timing chain tensioner wear from 100,000–120,000 km. The 2.0 TDI diesel timing chain is part of high-mileage maintenance.

In Škoda TSI, the chain package (chain, tensioner and guides) is always replaced as a complete unit — partial replacement is not sufficient.
