The need for air conditioning maintenance

It is a good idea to have your car's air conditioning serviced at least every two years. Even if the air conditioning system is working properly, refrigerant is constantly evaporating from the system and the cooling capacity is reduced. When there is less refrigerant, the compressor has to work harder, which also increases fuel consumption. You can notice signs of a deteriorating air conditioning system and the need for maintenance during everyday driving. You may notice that the air flow is not cooling properly, even after the air conditioning has been on for a long time. One significant symptom can also be a bad smell spreading into the car through the air conditioning system. A functioning air conditioning system drips water under the car. If there is no water, the evaporator's condensation pipe may be blocked and the water cannot escape from the evaporator housing. This can cause moisture to build up on the floor mat and cause the windshield to fog up heavily.

Our Services

Why is the car's air conditioning not working?

The cause of a fault in the air conditioning system may be a leak in the system, allowing refrigerant to flow out of the system. This results in the refrigerant running out and the system no longer cooling. The fault may also be in the air conditioning compressor, preventing the refrigerant from flowing through the system normally. Other causes of a fault condition may include, for example, a blown fuse in the system, a clogged air filter or a broken fan motor.

REMEMBER!

  • It is a good idea to use your air conditioner at least once a month. Prolonged inactivity can dry out the compressor shaft seals, which can cause refrigerant leaks in the system.
  • Air conditioning should also be used in winter, but it is not recommended to turn it on in severe frost.
  • Also remember to change your car's air filter in the spring.

*EU Directive 2006/40/EC requires that air conditioning systems in cars type-approved after 1 January 2011 may not use refrigerants with a greenhouse effect (GWP, Global warming potential) greater than 150. However, a large proportion of cars sold after 2011 were type-approved before 1 January 2011. If you are unsure which refrigerant is used in your car, our staff will be happy to help.

Service overview

Air Conditioning Service in Vantaa starts with correct diagnosis and a clear work scope. Air Conditioning Service restores cabin cooling, removes moisture from the windows and protects the compressor with the correct refrigerant, oil and system sealing.

What it does

Air Conditioning Service restores cabin cooling, removes moisture from the windows and protects the compressor with the correct refrigerant, oil and system sealing.

Why it's critical

The air-conditioning system is not only a comfort feature. It dries cabin air, helps keep the windows clear and needs enough refrigerant and oil so the compressor does not run dry.

Why you shouldn't ignore it

Weak cooling, warm airflow, bad smell or fogging windows should be checked early. A small refrigerant loss or blockage can stress the compressor and turn into a much more expensive repair.

Commonly affected systems

  • The refrigerant type is confirmed from the car before service: common options include R134a, R1234yf and, in some vehicles, R744.
  • In hybrid and electric cars, AC can also be part of battery and cabin thermal management, so the correct refrigerant and oil are checked especially carefully.
  • Leaks, cabin-filter blockage, condenser damage, compressor engagement and vent temperature are checked according to the vehicle design.

Symptoms

AC does not blow cold air

If the airflow stays warm, the system may have low refrigerant, a leak, compressor-control fault or condenser issue.

Cooling gradually gets weaker

Refrigerant is lost gradually over time, and even a small shortage can be noticeable in hot weather.

Bad smell from the vents

Smell is often related to a damp evaporator, dirty cabin filter or contamination in the ventilation ducts.

Windows fog up easily

A working AC system dries cabin air. If dehumidifying does not work, windows may fog especially in rain and winter.

Compressor is noisy or does not engage

Noise, intermittent engagement or a compressor that does not run needs inspection before simply refilling the system.

When is service needed?

Typical service interval

Air-conditioning service is usually recommended about every two years, or as soon as cooling, smell or dehumidifying changes. Refrigerant amount is checked during service according to the vehicle requirement.

Factors that affect wear

Seals, hoses and the condenser are exposed to temperature changes, vibration, road salt and stone impacts. Long periods without use can dry compressor shaft seals.

Impact of maintenance and oil changes

Regular use also in cooler weather, cabin-filter replacement and timely leak checking help keep the system sealed and free from odour.

Vehicle-specific checks

The service confirms refrigerant type, compressor control, condenser and evaporator condition and any hybrid or electric vehicle requirements.

Risks of delaying

Compressor can be damaged

Too little refrigerant and oil can make the compressor run too hot or with insufficient lubrication.

Leak can get worse

A small leak can empty the system again after a refill if it is not located.

Visibility suffers in damp weather

When AC does not dry cabin air, the windscreen and side windows fog more easily.

Cabin odour and contamination increase

A dirty filter or damp evaporator can bring unpleasant odour into the cabin.

A refill alone may be wasted

If the system has a leak or control fault, adding refrigerant does not fix the root cause.

Our repair process

  1. 1

    Symptom and refrigerant check

We review cooling, smell, fogging and the refrigerant used by the car before starting work.

  2. 2

    Recovery and vacuum test

Old refrigerant is recovered and the system is vacuum-tested to assess sealing.

  3. 3

    Leak and component inspection

We check the condenser, hoses, connections, compressor operation and cabin filter as needed.

  4. 4

    Refill with the correct amount

The system is filled with the correct refrigerant and oil amount according to vehicle specification. UV dye is used when needed for leak tracing.

  5. 5

    Vent temperature and function check

Finally we measure vent temperature, check compressor engagement and confirm that the system cools correctly.

Parts included in the repair

  • Vehicle-specific refrigerant: The refrigerant required by the car is used, such as R134a, R1234yf or R744 depending on the system.
  • Compressor oil: Oil amount is added according to service equipment and manufacturer guidance.
  • UV dye when needed: Leak tracing can be supported with UV dye when inspection requires it.
  • Cabin filter when needed: The filter is replaced if airflow, odour or service schedule requires it.
  • Seals or faulty component when needed: Leaking connections, seals or components are repaired according to a separate estimate.

Repair time

Typical duration

A normal air-conditioning service usually takes about 1-2 hours. Leak tracing, component replacement or electrical diagnosis can take longer.

Factors affecting completion time

Time is affected by refrigerant type, how empty the system is, possible leaks, cabin-filter location and whether compressor or blower diagnosis is needed.

Vehicle availability after the repair

The car is returned after the system has been filled with the correct amount, sealing has been checked and vent temperature has been measured.
